This policy assists the residential home to ensure the prevention of the occurrence and transmission of infections through the upkeep and monitoring of the water system and identifying and removing the conditions necessary for bacteria to grow. Through this procedure, residents who have a waterborne infection are educated regarding their condition and are treated in a manner that respects their dignity.

This policy has been updated to incorporate HIQA (2018) National Standards for infection prevention and control in community services.
