All residents shall be facilitated to direct how he or she lives on a day to day basis according to personal values, beliefs and preferences. This policy ensures the residential home staff, and associated Health and Social Care Professionals, provide person-centred care and support and at all times respect residents’ autonomy in line with legislative requirements.

The policy has been updated to incorporate the HIQA & MHC National Standards for Adult Safeguarding 2019, HIQA and Safeguarding Ireland’s Guidance on a Human Rights-based Approach in Health and Social Care Services and HSE National Consent Policy Version 1.0.
