By Implementing the requirements detailed in this procedure, the residential home endeavours to reduce the potential for injury by following best practice guidelines in relation to the management of sharps and needle stick injuries.

This policy was recently updated to incorporate ‘Community Infection Prevention and Control Manual: A practice guide to implementing Standard and Trans-mission-Based Precautions in Community Health and Social Care Settings’, ‘Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) National Clinical Guideline No. 30’ and ‘HSE Policy on the Management of Sharps and Prevention of Sharp Injuries’.
